REALgirl® Empowerment Workshops & Camps
real: re•al (adjective) –genuine: authentic. Not imitation or artificial.
REALgirl: (noun) – A tween or teen girl committed to the ongoing mission of discovering, being and becoming her authentic self, mentally, physically and spiritually. She is dedicated to consistently developing and protecting her skills, knowledge, confidence and courage so that she may make informed choices from a place of self-knowledge, self-respect and strength. Most importantly, a 'REALgirl' recognizes that she is the author of her own path and is defined only by herself - not by the media, society or anyone else.
Mom of a 15 Year-old Girl
My daughter loved the entire week! From the first day I noticed a difference in her mindset and energy. She returned home at peace, talkative (to me!) and genuinely interested in sharing her time with you and the other girls. Although I did not get all the details, she felt it was worth every minute of her time there and had difficulty leaving the last day. I know she left the week with a great deal of new insight.
A big heartfelt thank you.
- Patricia, Glendale, CA

Mom of a 15 Year-old Girl
I think REALgirl is a wonderful opportunity at this age for the girls to have an outside source to explore the issues that you brought up and to get them thinking about themselves and giving them some tools to work out things that they did not have before. Excellent beginning to a much needed opportunity and experience

One of my favorite parts of REALgirl was learning about our mooncycle because it helped me understand my period and how my body works. -Emma, 9

Southern California Self-Defense Consultant, Tracy Macrum
Armed with a passion for personal power, Tracy Macrum has been studying self-defense for more than 20 years. In 2005, motivated by the steady rate of child annoyance incidents in her own small town of South Pasadena, she began to focus on the empowerment of girls. The mother of a 9 year-old daughter, Tracy has become determined to connect with as many girls as possible and inspire them to develop confidence, knowledge, skills and tools to identify, avoid and survive an attack. As she constantly reminds the girls she works with, 'Empowered girls do not make good victims!' Tracy’s instruction includes instinctive self-defense techniques from Krav Maga, a 'do what works' martial art that does not rely on strength or expertise. As the newest REALgirl® team member, she is excited to bring her approach and passion for empowerment to Anea Bogue’s vision and work with girls.

Thoughts from REALgirls
My favorite activity at REALgirl was the Vision Board because it was so artistic. I also really like the grandmother meditation because I really felt it as a memory. I also like when we rated our relationships because it felt good to get my thoughts out. One challenge I overcame this week was really talking about the people in my life because before it was uncomfortable. - Lydia, 9
I feel like I have become more confident and less shy. I also liked how we talked about women being powerful. By the end of the camp I could really see this. - Taylor, 15
REALgirl is an amazing program that leads you on a path of self-discovery and self-respect. We learn to love ourselves, improve our relationships, and build and remove shields. - Nadia, 15
